The Commission duly reported on the cost of living, which was rising, and went on to say a good deal also about both the rising standard of living and what we would nowadays call the improving 'quality of life' as compared with that of 20 years before. This book is largely concerned with the ways in which the volume of production was raised, but the importance of rising world prices for agricultural commodities - especially after 1895 - must not be forgotten.
