Description

Remote The Land's Heart: Wildlife and Landscapes in Southern New Zealand. Text and drawings by Chris Gaskin. Chris Gaskin found the title Remote the Land's Heart in James K. Baxter's 'Poem in the Matukitiuki Valley', believing it to be an apt reflection of the wilderness in New Zealand's South Island which he wanted to depict. However, in the course of preparing the book he came to realize that 'remoteness' is not so much a matter of geographical isolation as a state of mind. Indeed he discovered that urban Man can be as remote from the wilderness and landscape in his immediate surroundings as from true wilderness. Chris Gaskins work is attracting a growing interest and admiration, not only for its unusual accuracy, but also because it succeeds in creating the illusion of constant change. Very light wear to the dust jacket, previous owners name or inscription removed on inside front page. Overall a tidy copy. A VERY LARGE BOOK THAT WILL REQUIRE ADDITIONAL FREIGHT.
