Description

Aspects Of The Crusades by J. J. Saunders. This is in no sense a history of the Crusades, but a series of essays on certain aspects of the Holy Wars, particularly in their relation to the Muslim and Christian East. The Crusades formed an epoch in the lifes of Western Europe, but they made comparatively little impact on the world of Islam. Partly because of this, they have been studied almost wholly from a Western standpoint. Much new material has been unearthed in recent years, and Arabists have set many features of the Crusading wars in a new light, but their findings are too often buried in the files of learned periodicals. In this book the results of some of these inquiries are presented and discussed. The dust jacket has light general wear and the book remains tight and bright.
