Spenser. The Faerie Queene (Book II)
Description
The Faerie Queene. (Book II) by Edmund Spenser and edited by P.C. Bayley. "As far as we know, Edmund Spenser was of fairly humble parentage (although in later life he claimed kinship with the noble family of Spenser) and was one of the many of his time whose intelligence and abilities enabled them to climb high. Then, as now, educational opportunity was open and wide. From that time to this, there has probably been no other time when there have been so few bars to advancement. In the time of Elizabeth I the poor but able boy who went from his local grammar school or a Cit school to one of the universities which was often destined for the Church, but those we now remember most vividly became writers: Shakespeare, Spenser, Marlowe, Ben Jonson, Webster, Peele among them." From the Introduction of this book.
