Description

Letters From a Viet Nam Hospital by Peter Eccles Smith. 'The author spent twelve months from February 1967 as leader of the New Zealand (civil) surgical team which works with the Vietnamese staff of the Provincial Hospital at Qui Nhon, South Viet-Nam. During this period he wrote long letters home to his wife and children describing the team's surroundings, their frustrations and rewards, their hopes and fears - and his own personal reactions: pity, anger, impatience, and the compassion of a surgeon hating war and its cruelties, yet recording his hopes for the future of a lovely but tormented country and its people. These letters are published exactly as they were written at the time, with no subsequent editing or censoring except for the removal of passages of family interest only', The dust jacket has light to medium general wear with several small closed tears along the edge and down the spine. There is some light tape ghosting stains on the early pages but overall a tight, tidy and bright copy.
