Great Northern? by Arthur Ransome. Illustrated by the Author. Arthur Ransome, C.B.E 1953, Hon. Litt. D. (Leeds). Hon M.A. (Durham) was born in Leeds in 1884 and educated at Rugby. He wrote books of literary criticism and on storytelling before he went to Russia in 1913 and learnt the language in order to study the folklore. Soon after the beginning of the First World War he became War Correspondent from the Russian front for the Daily News and later Special Correspondent of the Manchester Guardian, and as such travelled widely in Russia, China and Egypt. He gave up journalism in 1929 and between 1930 and 1945 wrote his famous Swallows and Amazons series of children's books. He died in June 1967.' The book has light to medium general wear but remains tight and bright. Previous owners name or inscription on inside front page.
