Description

The Face of England by H. E. Bates. With 40 Photographs in Colour by A. F. Kersting. 'If not the very first, this is certainly the finest book in which full use has been made of the resources of modern colour photography, the process of colour reproduction have improved enormously during the last decade or so, until now, in the hands of a sensitive photographer, they are able to mirror with sympathetic faithfulness the subtle tints of the English scene. In A. F. Kersting, A.I.B.P., F.R.P.S., they have found such a photographer, as a glance through the illustrations will show. His pictures, apart from their immediate beauty are representative of the Face of England in two ways; they cover the counties with topographical equity, and they preserve an interesting balance between village, town and country, church, castle and country house. Mr H. E. Bates's merits as a writer, and in particular as an appraiser of the English landscape, stand in no need of a eulogy from his publisher.' The dust jacket is well worn with chips and closed tears but the book remains tight and bright.
