Description

Limeworks of the South by Ossie Collinson. 'Oswald Lewis Collinson was born to George and Jessie Collinson at Invercargill on 14 August 1919. George was a dairy farmer and sawmiller at Tussock Creek who later sold his farm and started up a carrying business in 1926. On leaving school Ossie went to work at Storrie Willett implements Spey Street (now Waghorns). Trucks were more of interest to him than implement engineering so he sat a truck driving test and received a restricted 21/2 ton Licence. During semi-retirement Ossie began to write about his experiences and about local history. He called a meeting in Winton to see if there was any interest in a book on the history of Limeworks in the South. About a dozen people turned up and the road to finish the book began in earnest.
