Description

For Whom the Bells Toll : A History of the National War Memorial by Chris Maclean. 'The origins of this booklet date back to 1995 when Pam Madgwick, Manager of the Heritage Property Unit of the Department of Internal Affairs, invited the Historical Branch to prepare a new history of the Carillon to celebrate the instrument's completion, and to record its role in the on-going commemoration of the nation's victims of war. The Carillon has many admirers, but it is cared for and managed by just a few devoted individuals. I am grateful for their invaluable contributions. Bill Hopper, Paul Riley and Erin Sinclair provided information and assistance, and Timothy Hurd and Sydney Shep ensured that this publication is as accurate as possible. Above all their enthusiasm and concern for the Carillon were an inspiration, which I hope is apparent.' The front cover has a couple of very small nicks but the book remains tight and bright.
