Description

Station Days In Maoriland and Other Verse by George Meek. 'The quaint old structure depicted on the cover is the original Puketoi Homestead, fashioned after the style of the cottage of Robert Burns, and for years the home of the first proprietor and his men. It was here David McKee Wright worked'. Some of the earlier lines in this collection were published originally in the Otago Witness (1906-1910), when the writer was working on Galloway Station. It was in the earlier part of this decade that McKee Wright worked across the hills on Puketoi. Acknowledgments are extended to publications in which much of the later verse appeared, including the Free Lance, Weekly News, Weekly Press Railway Magazine, Alexandra Herald, and Farmer Weekly (New Zealand), and the Australasian and Scottish Australasian (Australia). "Station Days in Maoriland" makes no pretence of being a contribution to New Zealand poetry. Its sole aim is to revive memories of the station days which singularly enough, inspired so many singers in Australia and so few in New Zealand'. From the early pages of this booklet. The booklet has light to medium general wear with age spots down the page edges and small crease on some of the early page corners. Overall the binding is tight and pages bright.
