'Memories will mix with the smell of burning rubber and fuel when 50 years of racing at Timaru's Levels Raceway is celebrated. The international motor racing circuit which opened in late 1967, has, over the years, become a multi-purpose venue. It recently hosted the New Zealand Speed Skating Championships and will host the South Island Secondary Schools' road cycling championships later in 2018. Kevin Pateman, president of the South Canterbury Car Club for the past 15 years, said the club had decided to celebrate the jubilee early in 2018 instead of 2017 so it didn't interfere with the Christmas period and the January 26-28 event will mark a significant milestone.Celebrations will begin at Levels at 9am on January 26, and will run until 5pm on January 27.'
