Waggoner Jack and Us
Description
Waggoner Jack and Us by Alma Stevenson. Waggoning Tales on the Crown Terrace Arrowtown to Pioneering on the Southland Peat. 'This latest publication is a non-fiction account containing vignettes of daily farming life throughout a large proportion of the 20th century. It's really more "and us" than "Waggoner Jack". However, the latter was a real character, well loved, and without him there would have been no "and us". Waggoner Jack, from Arrowtown, died in 1991 before he could finish his memoirs. Alma has fulfilled a promise and included her father-in-law's interesting life snippets into this book about her own married family life. He was a waggoner on the Crown Terrace among other jobs over a long and fulfilling life. When Alma and Noel Stevenson married, they began farming in Mokotua, buying up and breaking in new land as time, money and availability allowed.'
