Description

A Man's Man: Letters and some Recollections of Lieut. George Lacey Lee, M.C. Compiled by Hope Verity Hewitt.'This is a story, told largely in his own words, of a romantic young Englishman who after some experience in both Australia and New Zealand set out to create a small farm for himself on a virgin block near Te Kuiti in the North Island. On the outbreak of war in 1939 he immediately enlisted, and much of the book is made up of his letters describing life in the 27th (Machine Gun) Battalion in camp in New Zealand and Egypt and in the brief burst of intense and heroic action outside Tobruk in which he met his death. This narrative is supplemented by the recollections of a number of fellow-members of his Battalion told to the compiler forty years later.' Ex Library Book with all the usual stamps and markings.
