Description

Travesty after Travesty by Stuart C. Scott. The Sequel to The Travesty of Waitangi. 'Stuart Scott wrote this book in order to record the disastrous slide of Maori and non-Maori relationships since the completion of his best-selling book, The Travesty of Waitangi, at the end of 1993. In December 1985, speaking on the Waitangi Amendment Bill sponsored by the Labour Government, Hon. Douglas Graham said it was 'a timebomb which no one really wanted.' In October 1996, Graham as Minister was feverishly settling huge Maori claims right up until a few days before the election. To n avail: the Maori race deserted his party in droves (and Labour as well) for New Zealand First. This book has three objectives. The first is to draw the attention of the public to the biased and historically inaccurate findings of the Waitangi Tribunal - whose existence, Scott believes, should be terminated. Secondly, he urges that the anti-colonial and pro-Maori propaganda which comprises the cultural safety course in the nursing curriculum be kept out of our schools and colleges. Finally, he points out to the people of New Zealand that it is they, the taxpayers and electors of this country, who have the democratic right to arrest New Zealand's quickening slide towards apartheid, and the must be taken by them, perhaps, he believes, under the guidance of the New Zealand Association for Cultural Justice.'
