Handbook to Fiordland National Park (1963)
Description
Handbook to Fiordland National Park 1963 Edition Edited by G. Hall-Jones. 'Fiordland is one of the largest of the world's National Parks and is certainly the largest in New Zealand. Embracing 3,025,069 acres it comprises virtually the western half of Southland, while its northern extremity extends into Otago. As will be seen from the map accompanying this handbook the Park's boundary to the south and est is the Tasman Sea and its fiord-indented coastline extends as far north as Martins Bay. From there it extends in a south-easterly direction, thus including Lake McKerrow and Lake Alabaster; thence due south to Lake Howden and along the Eglinton River (East Branch), the eastern shores of Lake Te Anau, Manapouri, Monowai, Hauroko, Poteriteri, Hakapoua, and by Big River to Foveaux Strait; also included in the Park are the rocky Solander Islands some 32 miles south of Puysegur Point. The Park is world renowned for the rugged grandeur of its scenery, much of which even today remains virtually unexplored.' The book has light to medium general wear but remains tight and bright and fold out map is complete.
